Phillip Richardson

I am a painter, working chiefly in watercolour and oil. Watercolour is my preferred medium and the one I return to most often. I also make prints, a little sculpture, and work in other crafts.

I trained at Chelsea School of Art in the late 1960s, and went on to teach art for forty years. I have painted throughout.

My current work develops an approach to landscape I have come to call romantic expressionism. The painters I have been most influenced by are probably William Blake, Samuel Palmer, Paul Nash and Ivon Hitchens.

My recent work has been shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2025) and in a solo exhibition at the Lapworth Museum, Birmingham (2022).
